What Is NYT Crossplay?
NYT Crossplay is a 2-player real-time word game launched by The New York Times in January 2026. Like Scrabble, players draw rack tiles and place words on a shared board, earning points from letter values and bonus squares. The real-time format adds a speed dimension — you and your opponent play simultaneously rather than taking turns, so fast word recognition is as important as finding the highest-scoring play.
How This Tool Helps
Enter up to 15 tiles — including blank tiles represented by ? — and the finder checks every possible combination against the ENABLE word list. Results are sorted by reference Scrabble tile value so higher-value candidates appear first. Use it to study letter combinations and practice recognition, then check actual acceptance in the game.
Advanced options support length ranges, excluded and required letters, common-word ranking, and board patterns. In a pattern such as c??t, C and T are fixed board letters while the two question marks consume rack tiles.
Practice Rack Recognition
You can use this finder away from active games to build familiarity with common letter combinations. A few ways to practice:
- Compare several candidates: Do not assume the first result is accepted or best for the live board.
- Learn common extensions: Look for short additions such as S, ED, or ING, while remembering that each resulting word still needs in-game verification.
- Try wildcard searches: A
?can reveal patterns you may not recognize from the rack alone. - Practice with this tool: Run your common tile combinations through the finder to build a mental library of top plays — speed comes from pattern recognition.
About the Dictionary
This tool uses ENABLE (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), a public-domain general English word list. We do not have Crossplay's accepted-word list and do not claim that ENABLE matches it.
ENABLE can include a word Crossplay rejects or omit one Crossplay accepts. Verify candidates directly in the game. Our ENABLE Word List Checker only checks ENABLE membership; it does not provide an official Crossplay ruling.
